Long Wharf

Long Wharf extends a half mile into the harbor, recognizable by the brick facade of the Custom House Block sitting at its base. Built in seventeen ten, it served as the center of colonial trade, where ships unloaded tea, rum, and molasses directly onto the cobblestones. When the British army arrived in seventeen sixty-eight, they turned this busy commercial hub into a military landing point for their troops. The wharf remains the longest of the original colonial piers, still reaching deep into the water.
