Boston Tea Party Marker

The bronze tablet set into the brick wall on the corner of Congress and Purchase Streets marks the approximate site of Griffin’s Wharf. On the night of December sixteenth, seventeen seventy-three, three ships—the Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver—moored here held three hundred and forty-two chests of East India Company tea. A group of men, many disguised as Mohawk Indians, boarded the vessels and dumped the entire cargo into the harbor to protest taxes imposed by the British Parliament.
