Old Corner Bookstore

The Old Corner Bookstore sits at the intersection of School and Washington Streets, identified by its narrow, brick facade and the weathered wooden sign that hangs above the entrance. Built in seventeen eighteen, the structure served as a shop for apothecaries before becoming the home of the publishing firm Ticknor and Fields. Within these rooms, editors worked with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Nathaniel Hawthorne, transforming the building into the literary hub of nineteenth century Boston. It remains a fixture of the city.
