Nichols House Museum

The Nichols House Museum is a four-story brick townhouse defined by its Federal-style architecture and the narrow, steeply pitched roofline that distinguishes it from its neighbors. Built in eighteen oh four, the house served as the private residence for several prominent Boston families. Rose Standish Nichols, a landscape architect and pacifist, lived here until nineteen sixty. She filled the rooms with her family’s collection of fine art, furniture, and personal items, effectively freezing the domestic life of the nineteenth-century Beacon Hill elite in place.
