200 Clarendon

The sixty-story tower of reflective glass at two hundred Clarendon Street slices through the Boston skyline with sharp, mirrored edges. Architects designed this skyscraper to disappear against the clouds, but the building became infamous for its behavior in the wind. Shortly after it opened in nineteen seventy-six, the glass panels began popping out and crashing to the sidewalk below. Engineers eventually installed a massive tuned mass damper in the top floor to stop the building from swaying during heavy gales.
