Old State House

The Old State House sits at the intersection of Washington and State Streets, marked by a golden lion and unicorn perched high above its gables. This brick building served as the seat of the Massachusetts colonial government for decades. On a cold March night in seventeen seventy, a crowd gathered in front of the building and clashed with British soldiers. The event ended with five men dead on the cobblestones, an incident the newspapers called the Boston Massacre.
