Old Northern Ave Bridge

The Old Northern Avenue Bridge stands as a rusted, immobile iron truss structure stretching across the Fort Point Channel. Built in nineteen oh eight, it once functioned as a swing bridge, pivoting on a central pier to let heavy maritime traffic pass to the city’s bustling docks. In nineteen forty-six, a strike by bridge operators famously trapped Mayor James Michael Curley on the wrong side of the water, forcing him to arrive late for his own scheduled dedication of the nearby federal courthouse.
