Weehawken Public Library

historic

The Weehawken Public Library sits on a dramatic precipice, overlooking the complex series of ramps and roadways known as the Lincoln Tunnel Helix. While thousands of commuters pass beneath this cliffside every day, few realize they are driving past the former mansion of a prominent local brewer named Wilhelm Joseph Peter. Completed in 1904 at a cost of seventy-five thousand dollars, the building was designed to resemble a seventeen-room German castle, featuring ornate woodwork, marble finishes, and stained glass windows.
