Theatre Row Building

The Theatre Row Building at four hundred and ten West forty-second Street stands as a deliberate anchor for the transformation of this neighborhood. In the nineteen seventies, this specific block was defined by an economy of adult theaters, peep shows, and massage parlors. To shift the area toward the arts, a non-profit group called the forty-second Street Development Corporation began purchasing these properties to replace them with legitimate theatrical venues. This effort was so significant that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis joined the board of the organization in nineteen seventy-seven to help guide the revitalization.
