C. Ledyard Blair House

The C. Ledyard Blair House once stood at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Seventieth Street as a symbol of Gilded Age opulence. Completed in nineteen seventeen, this sixty-six room limestone mansion was designed by the renowned architectural firm Carrere and Hastings. It was positioned to overlook the sprawling gardens of the neighboring Frick Mansion, creating a grand corridor of wealth along this stretch of Lenox Hill. The house featured intricate details, including Corinthian pilasters and delicate wrought iron balconies that spanned its long facade on Seventieth Street. Despite its immense scale and recent construction, the residence had a fleeting life, serving as the Blair family home for less than a decade before being sold for redevelopment in the mid-nineteen twenties.
