Nathaniel L. McCready House

The Nathaniel L. McCready House stands at four East seventy-fifth Street as a striking example of French Renaissance architecture. Completed in eighteen ninety-six, the mansion was designed for stockbroker Nathaniel L. McCready Jr. and his wife, Jeanne Borrowe McCready, by the architectural firm Trowbridge, Colt and Livingston. The structure originally spanned two plots and featured a limestone facade that set it apart from the more conventional townhouses of the era. Early descriptions of the home highlight its unique design elements, including a porte cochere that allowed carriages to pass through for a sheltered arrival, and a grand salon featuring a ceiling and walls adorned with crossed oak beams.
