Park Avenue Houses

The Park Avenue Houses are a distinct collection of four limestone residences located between 68th and 69th Street. Completed in 1909 and designed by the renowned firm McKim, Mead and White, these structures stand as a rare residential island amidst the grand apartment buildings that define the rest of the neighborhood. While much of the surrounding avenue transitioned into vertical co-ops during the twentieth century, these homes represent the era of private mansions that once dominated the street. Today, they house cultural institutions, including the Americas Society, the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the Italian Consulate General.
