Percy R. Pyne House

The Percy R. Pyne House sits on a corner that almost became the site of a thirty-one-story apartment tower. In the mid-nineteen sixties, developers began demolishing the interior of this mansion and two neighboring townhouses to clear space for new construction. The destruction was halted mid-process by the Marquesa de Cuevas, a granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller, who stepped in to purchase the buildings and save the historic blockfront from being erased.
