The ground beneath your feet at Hunter's Point South was created by massive human intervention in the mid nineteenth century. In eighteen fifty-two, developers bulldozed an entire hill into the East River to extend the shoreline and establish a new foundation for industrial expansion. This created the peninsula that now allows you to walk so close to the water.
