Harry F. Sinclair House

The building you see at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 79th Street is a limestone château that anchors a stretch of history known as Millionaires Row. Architect Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert designed this mansion in the late nineteenth century to mimic the grand structures found along the Loire Valley in France. Its exterior is covered in intricate stone carvings, including winged monsters, reptiles, and dolphins, which decorate the railings and chimneys in a display of Gilded Age opulence.
