Banksy "Hammer Boy" Mural

The Hammer Boy mural is a rare survivor of a month-long creative residency that the anonymous street artist Banksy held in New York City during October of 2013. While the artist left behind dozens of works across the five boroughs during that period, nearly all of them have since been painted over, stolen, or destroyed. This piece, located on a beige brick wall near the intersection of 79th Street and Broadway, stands out as the only major work from that entire series that remains on public view in its original location. Its persistence is the result of protective measures taken by local building owners and interested residents who recognized its value as a piece of urban history.
