Alley of Murals (Isaiah Zagar)

The Alley of Murals is defined by thousands of uneven, jagged shards of glass, ceramic tiles, and mirror fragments cemented directly onto the brick walls. Isaiah Zagar began covering these surfaces in nineteen ninety-four to rescue the passageway from neglect. He transformed a dumping ground into a permanent collage of personal memories and neighborhood history. People still walk through the tight, undulating corridors today, tracing patterns of color that completely hide the original building materials beneath layer upon layer of heavy mosaic.
