Congress Hall

Congress Hall sits at the corner of Chestnut and Sixth Streets, marked by its distinctive red brick facade and a modest wooden cupola. This building served as the meeting place for the United States Congress from seventeen ninety to eighteen hundred. While the Founding Fathers debated in the nearby State House, the legislative branch hammered out the daily mechanics of the new nation here. George Washington took his second oath of office in these chambers, and the Bill of Rights became law inside these walls.
