Masonic Temple

The Masonic Temple in Philadelphia features a towering granite facade of Norman-style arches that dominates the corner of Broad and Filbert streets. Inside these thick walls lie seven elaborate lodge rooms, each designed to represent a different architectural style, from Egyptian to Corinthian. In eighteen sixty-eight, when the masons laid the cornerstone, they used the same silver trowel George Washington held to set the foundation of the United States Capitol, linking this fraternal headquarters to the earliest days of the republic.
