Philadelphia City Hall

Philadelphia City Hall sits at the intersection of Broad and Market Streets, crowned by a thirty-seven-foot bronze statue of William Penn. It remains the largest municipal building in the United States, containing over fourteen acres of floor space within its granite and marble walls. During its construction, architect John McArthur junior insisted on using solid masonry rather than a steel frame. Workers spent thirty years carving the facade, finishing the project in nineteen oh one, just as newer buildings turned to steel skeletons.
