Ascenseur des Marolles

other

The Ascenseur des Marolles is a glass elevator shaft set directly into the steep limestone cliff face connecting the Rue Haute to the Place Poelaert. It opened in two thousand and two to bridge the gap between the working-class Marolles neighborhood and the wealthy upper town. Before the elevator, residents trekked up long, winding stairs or steep streets. Now, a hydraulic lift handles the vertical climb in seconds, offering a quick path for locals and a view across the city rooftops.
