Restaurant Wellamo

Restaurant Wellamo features a distinctive facade covered in dark, vertical wooden slats and a simple, small entrance that sits tucked away from the main thoroughfare. Established in nineteen twenty-seven, it served as a neighborhood tavern for the sailors and dockworkers of the Katajanokka district. During the nineteen eighties, filmmaker Aki Kaurismaki took ownership of the space, turning it into a legendary hangout for the local film community where directors and actors gathered to drink and talk into the early hours.
