The five-story red brick building at Vyökatu two dominates the corner with its sharp, turreted roofline and ornate stone carvings of leaves and faces. Built in nineteen eleven, this apartment block represents the peak of the Art Nouveau style in Helsinki. The architect, Selim A. Lindqvist, designed it for a time when the city was rapidly expanding upward. A local merchant lived on the top floor, watching the harbor activities from the windows that face the sea today.
