Eglise Saint-Vincent de Paul

The Eglise Saint-Vincent de Paul sits high above its square, anchored by two massive, square towers and a wide, grand staircase. It occupies the site of the former Saint-Lazare prison. In eighteen twenty-four, the architect Jean-Baptiste Lepere began work on this neoclassical structure, inspired by the Roman basilicas he had studied. During the construction, his son-in-law, Jacques Hittorff, took over the project, ultimately adding the distinctive friezes and the painted porch that define its facade today.
