The Pavillon de l'eau wears a facade of glass and zinc that reflects the changing light along the banks of the Seine. This structure houses the archives and educational hub for Eau de Paris, the city's public water utility. It stands on the former site of the Pump of Auteuil, a steam-powered station built in eighteen fifty-eight. Engineers once used those massive machines to draw river water into the city’s reservoirs, helping to end the cholera epidemics that plagued nineteenth-century Paris.
