Pavillon de l'eau

The Pavillon de l'eau stands on the site of a nineteenth century industrial facility designed to pump water from the Seine directly to the municipalities of Auteuil and Passy. When the steam engines were first installed here in 1828, they marked a major technological shift in how the city provided for its growing population. These original brick buildings, characterized by their tall, skylighted roofs, were created specifically to house the massive machinery needed to lift river water for daily use.
