La Contemporaine is a massive, angular block of concrete and glass that sits right at the edge of the campus in Nanterre. Inside this library and museum, the collection focuses on the twentieth century’s most violent upheavals. It grew out of a private archive that a couple, Henri and Louise Leblanc, started in nineteen fourteen to track the First World War. They stored thousands of posters and newspapers in their attic, eventually donating the entire collection to the French state.
