Museum of Romantic Life

The Musée de la Vie Romantique occupies a pale, two-story villa tucked at the end of a long, tree-lined alley in the ninth arrondissement. Built in eighteen thirty, it served as the home and studio of the painter Ary Scheffer. For decades, he hosted the leading cultural figures of Paris here every Friday night. Frédéric Chopin played the piano in the salon, while George Sand and Eugène Delacroix argued over literature and politics beneath the high ceilings of these very rooms.
