Square Montholon

Square Montholon features a massive, cast-iron entrance gate flanked by two monumental bronze statues of lions, each clutching a globe. Created in eighteen sixty-three under the direction of Jean-Charles Adolphe Alphand, this park served as a lush, private-feeling escape carved into the dense fabric of the Haussmann-era ninth arrondissement. For years, the park held a singular curiosity: a statue of a giant, sleeping giantess, which locals nicknamed the Titan, before it was eventually melted down during the occupation in nineteen forty-two.
