Hôtel Mezzara

The building you are approaching, the Hotel Mezzara, stands as one of the most complete expressions of Hector Guimard’s vision for the modern home. While Guimard is world-famous for his sinuous green iron entrances to the Paris Metro, he was also a pioneer of total design, meaning he aimed to shape every element of a living space, from the architectural structure down to the door handles and furniture. He built this private mansion in nineteen ten for his friend Paul Mezzara, a successful lace manufacturer and fellow officer in the Society of Decorative Artists. The project allowed the architect to create a home that served as both a personal residence and a sophisticated showroom for Mezzara’s intricate textile designs.
