Allée des peshmergas

You are currently walking along the Allée des Peshmergas, a pathway located within the Parc André-Citroën in the fifteenth arrondissement of Paris. The City of Paris officially inaugurated this walkway on September 5, 2025, to honor the Kurdish Peshmerga forces. The name Peshmerga translates from Kurdish as those who face death. It refers to the fighters who have served as the regional guard for the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Their long history of combat dates back to the mid-twentieth century, and they gained significant international recognition for their role in the fight against the Islamic State between 2014 and 2017. The designation of this path serves as a symbol of the friendship between Paris and the city of Erbil, which have maintained a pact of cooperation since 2019. Beyond the diplomatic ties, the location was chosen to place a tribute to these forces within the Parisian landscape, providing a direct view of the Seine. This site represents a lasting acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by the Kurdish people in their pursuit of autonomy and their role in regional security.
