Fontaines "Sources de la Seine" de Paul Landowski

The Sources of the Seine fountains standing at the Place de la Porte de Saint Cloud are a pair of monumental limestone pillars that serve as an ornate gateway to the city. Designed by sculptor Paul Landowski and architects Robert Pommier and Jacques Billard, these ten-meter-tall structures were inaugurated in 1936 to beautify the capital ahead of the 1937 Universal Exhibition. They hold the distinction of being the first illuminated fountains ever built in Paris. While they were originally intended to be constructed from glass to maximize this light effect, technical challenges and high costs led the team to build them in stone from Vilhonneur instead.
