Villa Cook - Le Corbusier

Villa Cook stands before you as a white, cubic volume that forever altered the course of residential design. Completed in nineteen twenty-seven, it served as a laboratory for the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier to test his revolutionary manifesto, the Five Points of Architecture. By lifting the structure on slender concrete columns known as pilotis, he freed the ground level from the heavy constraints of traditional foundation work. This decision allowed the house to hover above the site, transforming the relationship between a building and the earth beneath it.
