Auteuil Hippodrome

The Auteuil Hippodrome is defined by its sweeping, asymmetrical grandstand that curves over a thirty-three-hectare expanse of jumps and obstacles. Established in eighteen seventy-three, this track serves exclusively for steeplechase racing. Its layout mimics the rolling landscape of the countryside, forcing horses to navigate water jumps and thick hedges instead of flat turf. During the First World War, the grounds transformed into a military hospital, housing wounded soldiers in the stables while the roar of the crowd faded entirely.
