The Fondation Biermans-Lapôtre stands as a historical bridge between Paris and the nations of Belgium and Luxembourg. Completed in nineteen twenty-seven, it was the first international residence established within the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. The building was made possible through the wealth of Jean-Hubert Biermans, a businessman who built a fortune in the Canadian pulp industry, and his wife Berthe Lapôtre. Their donation created a dedicated home for students from their home regions, cementing a permanent academic link that has welcomed over twenty-five thousand residents since its opening.
