Musée-Placard d'Erik Satie

The composer Erik Satie once lived in a tiny, three-by-three meter utility room at this address in Montmartre. He dubbed the space his placard, or cupboard, because of its extreme confinement. During the late nineteenth century, his dire financial situation forced him to occupy this unheated room where his camp bed was so large it blocked the door from opening completely. On freezing winter nights, he slept fully clothed, piling his remaining garments on top of himself to stay warm.
