Porte Chaumont de Paris

The name Buttes Chaumont originates from the term chauve mont, which translates to bare hill. Before it was transformed into one of the city's most dramatic public parks, the site was defined by its geological harshness and lack of vegetation. The land was so desolate that it served for decades as a depository for sewage, refuse, and horse carcasses, creating a landscape that was both physically barren and notoriously malodorous.
