La Maison des Métallos

You are standing before La Maison des Métallos, a building that began its life in eighteen eighty-one as a high-tech factory for musical instruments. The company that operated here, Couesnon, became world-famous for its brass instruments and famously pioneered the use of steam-powered machinery to craft them. If you look closely at the portail above the entrance, you will see a wrought-iron lyre still hanging there today as a silent reminder of the musicians who once relied on this site for their gear. Many jazz musicians arriving from the United States in the early twentieth century visited this very workshop to purchase their trumpets and trombones.
