The Jardin du Moulin de la Pointe, which now honors the French politician Paul Quilès, sits on ground that once marked the edge of the city. Centuries ago, a windmill stood at this very spot at the intersection of the route to Fontainebleau, a landmark that served as a reference point for travelers approaching Paris from the south. The name of the garden preserves the memory of this long-gone structure, which was part of a network of mills once scattered across the valley of the Bièvre river.
