Maison Planeix

monument

The building you are approaching is Maison Planeix, a rare example of a modernist residence designed by Le Corbusier and his cousin, Pierre Jeanneret. Completed in 1928, it was commissioned by Antonin Planeix, a sculptor and craftsman who specialized in creating small photographic portraits for gravestones. At the time of its construction, the surrounding Boulevard Massena was largely empty, providing a quiet canvas for the architect to experiment with his vision. Unlike many of his other free-standing villas, this house had to conform to the strict constraints of shared walls with neighboring properties, making it an unusual project within his portfolio.
