Street art cat

landmark

The iconic yellow cat with the mischievous grin you see throughout the city is the work of an artist named Thoma Vuille. Known as Monsieur Chat, or M. Chat, this character first appeared on the streets of Orléans in the late nineties before migrating to the walls, chimneys, and drainpipes of Paris. Vuille created the cat as a whimsical symbol of happiness, often placing the figure in precarious, high-up locations where he would balance while painting at night. Over the years, these feline silhouettes have evolved from clandestine tags into a beloved, recognized fixture of the Parisian urban landscape.
