Statue of Winston Churchill, Paris

The bronze statue of Winston Churchill stands near the Petit Palais, depicted with a walking stick in one hand and a cigar in the other. It honors the British Prime Minister who championed the Free French Forces during the German occupation. In nineteen forty-four, Churchill walked down the Champs-Elysees with Charles de Gaulle to celebrate the liberation of Paris. The sculptor Jean Cardot designed this monument to capture Churchill’s determined stance, which remains a permanent fixture of this Parisian intersection today.
