Cabaret de L'Enfer

The Cabaret de L’Enfer is identified by a massive, gaping plaster demon’s head that serves as the entrance, its jaws forming the doorway to the club. Opened in the eighteen nineties by Antonin Alexander, it operated alongside its neighbor, the Cabaret du Ciel, or Heaven. Visitors passed through the devil’s mouth to find waiters dressed as imps serving drinks in a space decorated with bubbling cauldrons and flames. It functioned as a piece of immersive theater for the nightlife of Montmartre.
