The Square d'Anvers features a bronze statue of Sedaine, an eighteenth-century playwright, standing tall in the center of the garden. The park serves as a green clearing where the busy streets of the ninth arrondissement briefly fall away. It occupies the site of the former Abattoirs de Montmartre, which processed livestock for the city until they were demolished in the eighteen sixties. Where butchers once worked, local residents now sit on benches beneath the trees watching people pass through the park.
