Villa de Guelma

The Villa de Guelma is a narrow, private passage tucked behind an ornate iron gate on Rue de Douai. Unlike the grand boulevards of Paris, this quiet residential dead-end preserves the feel of the nineteenth century with its small, faded mansions and climbing ivy. In eighteen eighty-two, the painter Edgar Degas moved into number four. He lived here for nearly thirty years, often complaining about the poor light in his studio while creating some of his most famous sketches of dancers.
