Jardin des Doms

park garden

The Jardin des Doms sits on the highest rocky outcrop in Avignon, crowned by a wrought-iron railing that looks out over the Rhône. This public park occupies what was once a barren, strategic defense post used by successive popes to protect the Palais des Papes. In eighteen thirty-five, the city transformed this jagged cliff into a lush promenade. It holds a statue of the Venus Pudica, a copy of an ancient work, which local legend claims brings good luck to those who touch its stone feet.
