Théâtre des Halles

The Théâtre des Halles occupies a former nineteenth-century marketplace building, identifiable by its high, arched doorways and the pale stone facade that contrasts with the surrounding modern shops. Inside these thick walls, the space once served as a place to trade meat and produce. In the early nineteen-eighties, Alain Timar transformed the silent, empty hall into a theater. He spent months clearing the grime and installing seating, creating a venue where the acoustics rely entirely on the original, cavernous stone structure.
