Rue de la Petite Fusterie

Rue de la Petite Fusterie runs as a narrow, stone-paved passage between the massive walls of the Palais des Papes and the surrounding neighborhood. It takes its name from the fustiers, the woodworkers who once fashioned beams and rafters for the cathedral construction during the fourteenth century. While popes and cardinals held court in the palace above, these artisans labored in the damp shadow of the fortress, shaping the timber that supported the ceiling of the Great Chapel.
