1864 The Sea Captain's House Hotel

other

The Sea Captain's House in Oia stands out for its high, ochre-colored walls and a thick, arched doorway that cuts into the volcanic rock. While most dwellings in the village are carved deep into the cliffside, this structure was built upward, explicitly designed to catch the eye of sailors from miles out at sea. Captain Antonis Dakoronias commissioned it in eighteen sixty-four, stacking heavy stone to broadcast his family’s wealth and his status as a master of the Aegean trade routes.
