The Naval Maritime Museum of Santorini occupies a nineteenth-century captain’s mansion distinguished by its ochre walls and classic cycladic lines. Inside, the collection holds a history of the merchant sailors who once dominated the Mediterranean trade routes. Captain Antonis Dakoronias founded this space in nineteen fifty-six, moving his private maritime archive here to preserve the legacy of his fellow islanders. He gathered carved figureheads, ship manifests, and delicate watercolors of sailing vessels that navigated these waters long before steam replaced canvas.
