Domus K 1885

The whitewashed exterior of Domus K stands out for its high, arched entryway and the thick stone walls characteristic of nineteenth-century Santorini architecture. Originally built as a merchant’s residence in eighteen eighty-five, the structure served as a hub for the local pumice trade, which supported the island's economy for decades. During the nineteen fifty-six earthquake, the building remained largely intact, surviving the tremors that leveled much of the surrounding village. It stays preserved as a private home today.
